The trail, with many streams, kloofs and waterfalls, is situated in rugged mountainous area between 1500 and 2830 metres above sea level.  Enjoy the birds, wild life, mountain air and geological formations.  Watch out for puff adders and rinkhals.

Changing weather conditions so pack accordingly:  summer – thunderstorms: winter – snow, sleet and thick mist.

The 2 day, 31 km circular trail is for the fitter hiker.   An early start to hiking on both days is recommended.

Starting at the Glen Reenen Rest Camp, the first leg of the trail winds 16 km to Oudehouts Kloof.  The overnight hut is beautifully situated next to a stream. Some of the most beautiful sandstone cliff formations will be found here.  The stream has carved it’s path through the rock leaving fascination formations and some crystal clear rock pools.

Day two starts off along the Ribbokspruit to the waterfall.  There after is a climb up to Generaalskop (2 757m) which is a strenuous one but which provides majestic and panoramic views over Lesotho and the Free Sate.

For those who are not keen on such an energetic trail, there are also shorter walks on marked paths in the Golden Gate Highlands National Park.
